Paraná records 13 deaths and 180 cases of influenza A (H1N1-2009) in 2012
The Parana’s state Health Depatment announced on Monday (25) a new newsletter from influenza A (H1N1-2009). This year, 180 cases of Influenza H1N1 (2009) were diagnosed in the state, while 13 people suffered complications and died. The data are from Flu Situation Room that monitors and investigates all suspected cases of the disease in Paraná.
The deaths were recorded from March in the cities of Sao Jose of Pinhais (3), Curitiba (2), Ponta Grossa (1), Sao Mateus do Sul (1), Astorga (1), Apucarana (1) Cornelio Procopio (1), Tibagi (1), Capitao Leônidas Marques (1) and Siqueira Campos (1). In June were registered eleven deaths up to this moment.
According to PulmaoSA medical consultant, Dr. Marcos Nascimento: “It’s important to remember that the number of deaths can be linked to at least 3 factors:”
1) Low rate of influenza vaccine in the risk group ( asthma patients, pregnant women, obese and chronic diseases patients as COPD and Heart failure or Kidney failure patients);
2) Late diagnosis;
3) No observance of health habits ( or barrier’s measures) as: wash hands, the use of alcohol gel and the cough etiquette.
